Canadian Men's Volleyball Players Look to Extend Impact Beyond the Court through International Tournament
Loma Plata, Paraguay — April 23, 2024 — As the excitement builds for the upcoming TeamUp Cup in Paraguay, the spotlight shines on not just the thrilling volleyball matches but also the profound impact being made by the participating athletes. Among them, twelve dedicated men's volleyball players (including top CanadaWest and USPORTS talent from Trinity Western University Spartans and Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball teams), are set to embark on a transformative journey as part of TeamUp's 10-day Impact Trip, where they will compete in the tournament while simultaneously engaging in community service projects across Paraguay.
Under the banner of TeamUp, these athletes are not only showcasing their athletic prowess on the court but also exemplifying their desire and commitment to make a lasting impact through the power of sports. Throughout their stay in Paraguay, the Canadian players will be actively involved in a series of work projects and sports clinics aimed at uplifting local communities and inspiring the next generation.
“I think it is an awesome opportunity to give back through the sport that has given me so much,” expressed one of the players. “...Volleyball is a lot bigger than just a game, it teaches you life lessons and creates friendships that will last a lifetime so being able to combine competition and community service helps paint the bigger picture of the sport that we are all trying to achieve” - J.J. The TeamUp Cup, a highly anticipated tournament in Loma Plata, Paraguay, featuring eight teams from across South America, (Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil) promises to be a showcase of talent & sportsmanship, but more so, an opportunity for teams, athletes, sponsors and community partners to help bring a changing mindset to the transformative power of sports and its collective impact on the lives of kids and underserved communities.
Last year, when the women’s team from TWU travelled on behalf of TeamUp, they were able to serve in many communities, leaving a lasting impact for generations to come. They built infrastructure that served the needs of the community, and were catalytic into more local organizations and community leaders starting sports programs to impact the lives of hundreds of youth in Paraguay.
The catalytic tournament is emblematic of TeamUp’s commitment to harnessing the power of sports to drive positive social change and alleviate poverty. By combining competition with community service, the athletes are not only enriching their own experiences but also leaving a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
As the players of the 2024 edition of the TeamUp Cup gear up to compete and serve, they do so with a sense of purpose and a commitment to impact lives beyond the court.
Be sure to catch them in action through live broadcasts from May 3 - May 5. Game links will be shared across TeamUp’s social channels.
