Day 3 in Peru
April 30, 2022
What an impactful day in Peru. The 2nd annual TeamUp Cup kicked off in Manchay. Because of the pandemic, this tournament has not occurred since the inaugural event in 2020, but with lots of planning, coordination with our partners, and support from our donors, it was a huge success!
Many kids from Manchay & Villa María Del Triunfo - VMT (both highly impoverished mountain districts in Lima) don’t have the resources or opportunities to compete against other teams in or outside their towns. Football aside, some kids have never been outside their home towns—until today. This tournament provided a chance for the players to travel and compete with their teammates for trophies, medals and a whole bunch of fun.
Teams and players were bussed from VMT to Manchay, where they were greeted by the volunteers of our Impact Trip team and leaders from our partners Camino de Vida and Communities for Life. For the first time ever, an all girls team competed in the TeamUp Cup. This was their first experience playing against other teams and competing in a tournament! Needless to say — it was a very impactful day.
