Day 2 in Peru
Yurimaguas, Peru | February 17, 2024
“When it comes to sports, I feel like you don’t really need to know the language.” — Mansha Sidhu
Day 2 in Yurimaguas started off with two separate hands-on projects with half the team helping to renovate a community centre’s entryway and the other half working to convert a local field into what will eventually become a soccer school. Despite the torrential downpour which ushered in the early morning, the players were all smiles as they dug trenches at the centre and repainted lines at the field.
They even got to interact with a lot of the children at both locations. There may have been a language barrier between themselves and the kids, but in the words of forward Mansha Sidhu: “When it comes to sports, I feel like you don’t really need to know the language.”
The final big assignment of the day was a coaching clinic which the players got to run in the afternoon for soccer coaches in the area. The Spartans will now have their eyes set on an exhibition game they will play against Yurimaguas’ very own Selfeyur Futbol on Wednesday at 4:30pm local time.
