Day 1 in Peru
Yurimaguas, Peru | February 16, 2024
“…Not because we are special but because we know that through friendship, through sport, everybody is special.”
After two straight days of flying and close to four hours of driving, we finally made it to Yurimaguas – the first destination of our 2024 Peru trip! Even though it was incredibly hot when we arrived in Yurimaguas and despite the fact that we had been traveling for a long time, we thoroughly enjoyed playing soccer in a small local community for a couple of hours. The temperature was high but so were our spirits!
Before heading to dinner, three TWU Spartans – Charity Field, Olivia Kranjcec and Mya Bajpai – got to speak to the press alongside their head coach, TeamUp’s very own Graham Roxburgh. They expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards their hosts for the warm welcome they and the rest of the team were treated to throughout the day.
“We’ve come all this way from Canada,” stated Graham Roxburgh, “not because we are special but because we know that through friendship, through sport, everybody is special.” It is this spirit that the team will take with them as they begin work on the expansion of a local church building starting tomorrow. But first, they will be focused on getting some much needed shut-eye on this first full night of their trip.
