Mauro’s Impact

From Coaching Kids to Serving His Community

An aspiring coach and now influential leader in the community of Manchay, Peru. Mauro has faithfully been part of TeamUp’s partnership in his community, using sport to foster life changing opportunities in the lives of about 80 young kids. You may have seen his face before, just a few short months ago handing out food packages to the families in his community.

When the pandemic hit Peru, the district of Manchay was struck among the hardest impacted. The #TeamUpChallenge was initiated in support of our brothers and sisters who were in great times of need.

These families didn’t know where or when their next meal would come. But thanks to the support of many, we were able to supply these families with food in their bellies throughout the worst times of the pandemic.

It wouldn’t have been possible without people like Mauro, adapting his role and shifting focus to serve the immediate needs of his community.

Along with the food packages, he visited many families involved in the ‘Sport Life’ Manchay soccer academy while looking for new ways to keep the kids engaged. He gave each of the kids a ball, sending weekly soccer drills for his players to work on their technical skills at home.

Because of key leaders like Mauro, the kids are able to find community, a place to belong and continue growing their passion for the game of football in a life giving environment.

We look forward to the day they can return to competition, but until then we are encouraged to hear impact stories like Mauro and the positive change and influence he has on his community.
